Huffyuv actually does typically maintain 2:1 or better ratios, and that other one I linked (Alparysoft's Lossless) to claims to be even better (it certainly has seen much more work lately), and also has a lossless mode.
All he should need after he records it in huffyuv or Alparysoft is a program to convert the audio and video (which TMPGEnc is always good at) and IFOedit. Then he should be able to burn it as DVD video with Nero or similar. |
