Screeen resolution hacks

I'm sorry, I'm a little confused. When you say "no need to modify the "FIELD.BIN", do you mean update all of the other files listed in the Hex Codes to the new value but leave FIELD.BIN untouched? I did try that and the "flight around the village" scene loaded but the field of view visibly hadn't expanded to anamorphic widescreen.

When all 6 of the files are updated to the new hex value, the "flight around the village" scene doesn't visibly load and the screen remains black. I tried waiting several minutes but nothing changes even when I press start. Also I didn't notice this before since the television was on mute but the music which plays during the "flight around the village" scene begins to play but then loops the same several notes continuously, specifically when the bagpipes kick in. The black screen and looping music goes on until the console is turned off.

If you start a new game, it is better not to modify the file "FIELD.BIN" so that the initial scene does not freeze (all other files need to be modified). When the control passes to the player, go to the settings menu or the inventory menu, and then exit back - the screen will update and become widescreen.

Okay, I see what you mean. Once I selected the menu and hit back, the field of view updated to the desired proportions.

There is one catch to this setup however. When I went from the village to the docks (i.e. loaded a new area), the field of view reverted back to the original settings.

Going to the menu and hitting back did correct it again but this seems this happens whenever entering a different area. Is there any way to permanently fix this? I assume using the bin/cue with the updated "FIELD.BIN" after creating an initial save file would resolve this specific issue but are there any other parts of the game where it would crash when using the updated "FIELD.BIN"?

Anything is possible. You won't know until you try. After all, the game wasn't designed to support widescreen, and it will remind you of that from time to time.

That makes sense. Thanks for your help. I've used many of your widescreen patches for Sega Saturn games in the past but this was the only one that ever gave me trouble.

Hello there =]
I may have a couple questions regarding the the story of thor 2 hack, more specifically when the NTSC patch is applied.
Is it stable?
Also, the extra resolution aside, is the game speed comparable to the original NTSC version (USA or JAP)?

If you have any doubts, why not check everything yourself?

Fair enough, i'll give it a shot when i can, i needed a CD-ROM refill anyway.
It won't be an actual NTSC signal, since my machine is outputting PAL-60 (accurate 60Hz though, i have a DFO installed).
I'll let you know if i encounter something unexpected.
Thanks =]

I know I'm a few years behind on these hacks, I'm just finding out about everything they've done with this console and I was just looking for a patch that could make the resolution of Capcom fighting game ports more similar to arcade ones, I understand that they can't increase the vertical resolution, but reduce the width? Is it possible to get slimmer characters?

Thanks in advance

Capcom's CPS2 games use 384x224 resolution, which is technically a 16:10 resolution but squished into a 4:3 frame. The closest resolution the Saturn has to that is 352x224. That's what the Capcom CPS2 ports all use with the original arcade assets. Lowering the resolution won't make the characters slimmer, it will just make them fatter. Going up to 640 wide wont help either. So 352x224 is the best option available on the Saturn as you can use the arcade assets as is and still get pretty close. If you want slimmer characters on Saturn's resolutions you would have to redraw all the assets for that resolution.
