What CD writer should I buy

I´m planning to buy a new CD writer that supports RAW

BIN+CUE writing. That is needed to burn games like Nights into Dreams...

At the moment I only have a 4x 4x 32x Teac writer.

Which writers do support these MODE1+2 writing as BIN+Cue with CDR-WIN?

Any good writers I could buy?

get anything lite on or even get a 24x10x40 BTC Burner both are really top quality and cheap.

Do all these "cheap" new writers support that feature that is needed to create those BIN+CUE CD´s?

Do you have the model name of the lite on or BTC in mind? Is Lite On really good? I had two CD Rom´s from Lite On 32x and a 40x both died.. strange thing.

I have a lite on 24x10x40 in a p4 system, and the BTC 24x10x40 in my celeron system, both are excellent burners and have burned everything in every format i've tried so far, both are compatible with discjuggler as well. Excellent burners for the money, mine retailed for $169.00 CAD.

You have a TEAC CD-W54E... IDE burner and I have a TEAC CD-R58S... SCSI burner. According to the specs, both supports writing MODE1 and MODE2; both are also supported by CDRWin.... I was able to burn both of the NiGHTS games with my burner (RAW 2352 bytes/sector BIN+CUE rips), so I think you should be able to do so too.

Were you complaining that your current drive can't burn MODE1+2 images, or you just wanted to get a new burner that you are sure it supports writing MODE1+2 BIN+CUE images? I wasn't sure.

Anyway, according to PC World..., the Lite-On CD-ReWriter 32x12x40x looks pretty good. Although it only has 2MB of buffer, the buffer underrun protection feature cancels out that disadvantage. BTW, all Lite-On models are supported by CDRWin...; for more details, see Lite-On's products... page. Furthermore, notice the $50 drop from the previous month? LOL!

By create, do you mean create the BIN+CUE image or burn the BIN+CUE image? I think any CD-ROM reader can create BIN+CUE images as long as it can read the disc.

Edit: Fixed little typo on that sector size thingie

Hi,

yes I have the Teac W54E IDE CD-writer.

Generally I play to buy a writer that is faster than 4x.

But what do I wrong to burn Nights into dreams with my writer.

I open the Bin+Cue in CDR-WIN and burn it on CD. After burning CD the Data tracks and ALTHOUGH audio tracks aren´t able to play.

When I select RAW mode, CDR-WIN tells me that this is not possible.

with create I meant "burn a BIN+CUE on CD-R"

For the latest burnerns, you only need to check if it is of a known brand (HP, Plextor, Teac, etc). For example, kill anyone who tries to sell you a cyberdrive cdrw...

If you mean that you CAN'T play anything from it, then you either have a bad bin/cue, or you have tried to use a stolen registration code with cdrwin (cdrwin will just burn unreadable cd's if you have used a stolen registration code).

Anyways, I have a TDK 24x10x40x burner, and it's great. I would definately recomend it to anyone. It burns, discjuggler files, bin/cue, raw, everything I have tried. The only thing it had problems with was SAO, but that was more than likely cause I was using Fireburner. Last I saw, the TDK drive was about US$100 after something like a US$30 mail in rebate.

The most reliable and high quality drives are Plextors, HPs are also good.

Yeah, HP were nice writers. My first was a HP Surestore 7100i (2x,2x,6x). What a lot of money I had paid for it in 1997

Now I´ve connected it as a CD-ROM to my C64. [Yes thats possible ]

sony drives are good too. darn i forgot witch model number i was thinkin of

cdrwin doesnt work with stole registration codes?> mine was stolen and it works good for me

For cdrwin, if its a valid registration code, then it will work. However, if its an invalid registration code, it will "work", but everything you burn will just be an "audio" track thats the size of whatever your bin or iso was. I have had a 50-50 chance with registration codes for it, so I don't even bother with them anymore, cause most of the keygens don't make working codes.
