Single card SLI

Linky...

It is interesting, and for the short term may provide a better price/performance than two card SLI solutions or even perhaps single card higher end cards. But that remains to be seen. At least it might provide a high performance solution cheaper than the highest end cards, while still compatible with less expensive motherboards with only one 16X PCIe slot.

Isn't that basically what 3dfx did with the Voodoo5?

Remember the quantum card that was sli in a single slot also.

I miss 3dfx

Yes and no. There are quite possibly some extra tricks here, and the SLI implementation is superior to begin with. But the most important difference: One 6600GT core is good, so two should be good too. Whereas by the time they finally showed up, one VSA 100 core was junk, and two created expensive junk.

If they can bring it in at a good price point, it should produce impressive results. Otherwise it's just a silly gimmick.
