I am looking to buy Seaman and a mic from America and wondered whether I would need to buy an American DC to play it or whether I can just get a switch or something for my Pal DC.

US games play fine on PAL DC's - the games usually just default to something like the PAL60Hz mode.
All you need is some kind of boot disc - either one of the "real" ones (like the CDX disc) or the Utopia boot disc.
