Replace background?

After four months of long nights of programming, I have finished my text-only-rpg, but I'd like to load some backgrounds now. The thing is, I was able to load 1 background, but I have no idea how to overwrite that background pic. Should I use sprites instead or just wait for help?

If you have loaded already a picture, you should be able to load another picture instead of current pic. Show us what you try to do, like a little sketch
