RARE Dreamcast box
Jeffrey - May 12, 2004

Can someone help me?

I remember seeing the dreamcast in Japan being sold in a commemorative box to honor the death of, I think, the company's president. The box had a simple picture of his face. I think it was Japan only.

Can anyone help me find images of this box? Do you recall seeing this package? I've been searching these forums and google, but I don't know exaclty who/what it is.

I just want to find the name of the man and the image of the box made in his honor. Can anyone point of a link or something? Have you at least heard of it?

You are talking about the Isao Okawa LE Dreamcast. However I can't find any pictures either.

Hi,

yes i do know of the box that you are talking about. From what i know, this box was the very first run of dreamcast machines produced. One side of the box, had a picture of sega's then president, whilst the other side was red, with a white swirl. I forget the guys name though, but you can find a commercial with him in it over at www.dreamcasthistory.com.... The commerical is called "Japanese Commercial". If they dont have the file anymore, then i can upload it later.

Cheers

I think that the guys name was Shoichiro Irimajiri. but i dont have a picture of him to match up with the one on the box, but he was sega of japan's president at the time

I thought it was made after someone's death. Why would they put a picture of the guy on the box? That's just strange. Why not just put a picture of the Janitor on the box? Would the buyers see some significance in his photo?

It must be Isao Okawa, he the only person of note that died at SEGA. he wasn't dead at the 1998 japanese launch, he died sometime after HE decided to pull the plug on the DC. which i find a bit strange that they would remember him on the box of a system he never wanted in the first place.
