PS-2 Model SCPH-50004 & S400 iLink connector..

Hi

I noticed that the PS-2 Model SCPH-50004 is not equipped with the S400 iLink connector, unlike the older 39004 model which had it!

Why did SONY remove the i-Link connector from the newer model anyway?

A lot of people would like to play a 2P deathmatch on 2 different PS-2s.

Isnāt that what the S400 iLink connector was for in the first place?

So isnāt there a way to connect the 50004 model to a 2nd PS-2 and play a 2 player game on 2 different TV screens? It only has the 2 USB plugs.

I need to know in order to decide which model of the two models I should get.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, only Time Crisis 2 supported it.

I don't even know if Time Crisis 3 supports iLink though.

i think armored core might have supported it, the list of gmaes which did wasnt big enough to justify going out of ur way to get one that has it tho

Yeah, above everything else... not only can the i.Link supporting games be counted on your two hands, can any of you honestly say you've ever even SEEN an i.Link cable for sale in a store?

TimeSplitters2 for PS2 supports i.Link play, btw.

But yes, I just got an SCPH-50001 myself and it does indeed have no i.Link port, because so few games use it, and even fewer gamERS use it. ^_^;

An i.Link cable is just a regular 4pin to 4pin firewire cable. Sony just had to put a fancy name on it like they always like doing.

It probably doesn't help that Apple has a registered trademark for "Firewire", which is just their fancy name for IEEE 1394.

I was gonna mention that it's also known as IEEE 1394....but I couldn't remember the number at the moment.

And finding a cable with two 'mini' S400 connectors isn't easy.

It's like finding a two-ended mini-USB cable. Possible but rare.

Go to Best Buy... they're at the end of the printer section next to all the USBs... I must glance at them a dozen times a day...
