It looks really promising. What target architectures/consoles are you planning on releasing this for? I was working on an open world RPG in Unreal Engine 4.x but I gave up hope of finishing it, since I'm the only one who was working on it and I have no idea how to manage a project with multiple people (even if I was able to find someone who wanted to help).

open world RPG is too big a scope to start with, I recommend going for a more linear and condensed version of your game and build from there.

I hope to release for the Switch 2 and maybe even try hitting mobile. I'm REALLY sick of the mobile market being absolute trash, but my game also might have to drastically change because of it.

I was planning on releasing it in packs and add-ons, rather than try to make an entire world immediately. Like release an optional update or DLC that adds more content, quests, and new areas.

That's a very "drip-feed" sorta production/development cycle akin to Early Access. Very few games have been able to succeed with that model.

I mean you can do it... but I just don't think it would be good for the health of your game. I could be wrong though.

Thanks for your opinion, but I'm not asking for advice on my game. I'm not even working on it anymore anyway. If I ever do get back to it, I'll do whatever I want.

Pretty good. Its obviously not finished, but DEFINITELY something to work with. But I have several questions.

1.) Was it hard to get approved for Switch development ? I'm actually trying to get involved with it as well. I was with them before, but I'm hoping that I could get approved by them again.

2.) What game engine are you using ? My eyes and instincts tell me that its Unity3D. Because they've stuck with Unity3D before during the Wii-U/3DS era(I was there with them). I don't take much of a shine to UnrealEngine.

3.) Are you doing any development for ANY of the Sega consoles ? Obviously, I'm a fan of them all, but I favor DreamCast more, with the Saturn my #2 go to.

1. Still haven't applied for the process of getting a Switch 2, though from what I heard from insiders, it's been a pain getting one.

2. Unreal Engine Actually, Prototyped this during the Runtime Fee Nonsense Unity had during 2023. Also didn't like working in Godot, so I just defaulted to Unreal because it was actually able to run on my laptop. I have been using a 2023 Asus Zenbook 14 for a benchmark. I don't believe a lot of Unreal devs target lower-end base hardware for their games, which is a pretty overlooked issue imo when it comes to the Unreal Dev community.

3. No old school consoles in mind, I don't think that's possible.

1.)My local Wal-Mart have quite a few Switch 2's lying around.

2.) Yeah, I hear you. That Unity3D pricing thing was pretty crazy for a while, maybe you should check back and see if they're over that nonsense. I think that UE is unoptimized...

3.)I'm currently messing with the Sega Saturn platform, and finally got something going.

Not gonna disagree with you on the UE opinion, but I definitely have found it pretty easy to work with gameplay and system implementation wise compared to Unity. And just following best-case practices for 3d rendering, handling tick/expensive calculations and object pooling/occlusion culling can get you stable 60 FPS. Plus, there's been a few other alternatives besides the big 3 mentioned, those being the 2 aforementioned and Godot.

I'm not a fan of Godot. Ive even considered to laborious task of creating my own one, on prospective hardware, for 1:1 compatibility

Hey guys, very sorry. Unfortunately there are some pretty bad game crashing bugs I found last night, so Proto Zero's demo release will be postponed for Wednesday, most definitely.
