My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own I just noticed this yesterday -- I'll hit the open button for my fairly new Samsung DVD drive and about a second after the tray comes out, it closes back up again. It did this quite frequently, but not every time. Needless to say this is very annoying since it grabs the DVDs I put in there before I'm done putting it in the tray (then they get lodged in there halfway). Should I try a firmware upgrade or does this sound more like a physical hardware problem?

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own You HIT it? Be gentle with it. You could always open your drive using software instead so you don't wear down the open/close button that quickly. Additionally, you can utilize the little pin hole as well. A straightened out medium size paper clip should do nicely.

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own Riiiight. If they offer a firmware update, you've got nothing to lose, but that is unlikely to fix anything. I mean, even if it isn't perfect, the firmware they shipped it with probably withstood the "Does it open and function?" phase of testing. It sounds to me like there's something wrong with the open/close button. I don't suppose it is still under warranty?

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own probably is -- it's only like 5 months old. Should have a 1 year warrenty It's an OEM drive -- how do I go about doing warrenty stuff with Samsung?

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own OEM might be tough to do since they generally only take retail stuff from individuals. But you could get lucky and they might honor it.

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own well why would they offer a warrenty if they don't honor it? anyway, I've been experementing with it more -- if I do a software eject, it doesn't seem to have a problem. But when I push the button it's not consistant and it has different length pauses before closing. I don't want to have to do a software eject all the time...

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own Sounds like a physically faulty hardware button to me. And they probably only offer the OEM warantee through the shop you bought it from, so you'll probably have to deal with them rather than Samsung directly.

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own Because the software eject thing works fine, I agree, it could be the button. But it's also plausible that the tray is just really sensitive and is closing for some reason (like how it does when you push in on the tray itself). You might try removing the tray from the drive completely and then putting it back in.

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own it's not from bumping the tray -- I thought of that already no about this warrenty thing, would I have to pay for shipping normally? I bought it from Newegg, BTW

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own You'd probably have to pay for shipping to get it there but they'd pay for the return shipping. But they might have a different policy so contact the people you bought it from first.

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own If Newegg agrees to take something back for a return they usually refund shipping, too. I returned a case to them (specifications changed and it wasn't reflected on the site). They told me that they'd refund up to $25 for shipping it to them, and they did. However, I've never had to deal with a warranty issue involving an OEM item (warranty usually isn't fantastic on OEM anyway). You should definetely call them up either way, even if you had to pay shipping I think it would be worth it.

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own youll have no problems RMA'ing that thing back to newegg. i know people that have RMA'd shit almost a year after they bought it (without any extended warranty of any sorts). thats why i only buy from them.

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own Here's their policy... I don't remember if the OEM drive came with any papers or anything. I don't usually keep the stupid stuff. All I remember is it came bubble-wrapped.

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own Did you play with the bubble wrap? I'd suggest checking out the button on the drive and see if you can clean the gap around the button...something could be causing the button to stick and if you hold it down on cd drives it'll pop back in after opening up. 		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own This is why it is actually good to hang on to documentation, hence file cabinets. Have you tried smashing it to bits with a hammer yet? That usually stops DVD drives from doing such things.

		My DVD Drive has a mind of it's own the last couple days have been much better. but the only thing I've done is replaced my modem and cleaned some dust in the case. Seems like it's only done it once since Friday. I still have to hesitate before putting a disc in or taking one out
