I just wanted to put this topic... under a new thread with a proper subject.

Anyway, I'm running memtest and it freezes up on me.

Read the linked thread for more details

my RAM speed is set at 8-3-3-3 (the default)

and I've set it to 7-3-3-3 and 6-3-3-3 and still have the same problems.

Setting your setting lower will NOT improve stability. Raising them will. Try extreme settings like 9-5-5-5. Or whatever the highest ones you can set are. If it works at these settings gradually decrease them and keep trying until you get to ones that are stable.

Ok -- I set it to the extreme: 8-3-4-4. That's the slowest I could go.

Still had the same problems.

Could it just be an incompatibility with the chipset or something like suggested earlier?

I'll probably try to install Windows XP tommorow and see how stuff goes from there.

Any other testing software I should give a try too?

I've heard Prime95 suggested.

BTW, here's my other test results:

Test 5: 10 passes -- no errors -- no freeze

Test 6: 1 pass -- no errors -- froze on 2nd pass

Test 7: freezes right away

Test 8: 2 passes -- no errors -- no freeze

well I just read on another board that disabling the "Legacy USB Support" fixes this problem. I'll have to try it tonight.

Sigh...

Man, I can't wait to try this machine out on Photoshop....

turning off the legacy USB support got it to work.

I'm more than 2 passes through the whole set with no errors so far
