Is saturn's midi in complete in terms of circuitry?

Hi

So I wanted to build my own midi in adapter for music school 1 and 2. I was wondering if anyone knows if pin 3 of the communication port is connected to an opto isolator? Like, best case, connect the 5v to 5v and midi out of keyboard to midi in, pin 3 to gnd and it will just work.

Or do I need to put an opto isolator between midi out and midi in?

Also, any game actually use midi out of the saturn? The keyboard came with in and out ports.

Thanks

Are you asking if the specific adapter, has it? I would imagine it would need something to prevent high voltage from going from the midi device to the Saturn. 12V may kill it.

There's no optocoupler in the Saturn. The MIDI adapter has one on the input port, as you'd expect. See also this thread: Calypso - Saturn Instrument Maker....

Oh at least there's some open source MIDI board. I do hope BOM and the board/schematic are shared in the future.

But yeah based on the pic on the thread, it does look like it really needs the full midi circuit for the midi in. Maybe I'll just wait for the BOM and board/schematic to be shared before continuing.
