I'm pretty chill. How are you? |
krank | Nov 13, 2024 | |||
I'm stressed. My job is great but the company I work at is crap. Thinking about changing. And I am in a relationship crisis. Otherwise life is good. |
Kuta | Nov 14, 2024 | |||
I hope that works out for you. What kind of work are you looking at doing and how old are you? |
ExtraWildGames | Nov 14, 2024
Quality Assurance. 27 years old. Have a job right now, but looking to get paid more money. |
Kuta | Nov 15, 2024 | |||
At your age you have so much ahead of you and so many options you could take. I think you will do well. |
ExtraWildGames | Nov 15, 2024
Thanks. Really trying to get a new job I can stay at for a while and, doing game dev on the side might help me get somewhere. |

I'm doing swell. Finally compiled a working test executeable for the Saturn last week, and ran it in Nova to test it out and it worked. So, since the hard part is outta the way , I'm getting busy getting something created for the contest. Don't worry too much about the job thing, something good will come around I'm sure. But in the meantime you should focus on the Saturn game dev for a fun distraction. |

Actually working on an Unreal game project myself. Might be able to put out a demo next month. |

You would like to be a game developer? I'm working on a new website to find lost media myself. |
ExtraWildGames | Dec 30, 2024
Yes actually. Kinda has been something I want to at least try to do it once in my life. |
Tiviat | Dec 30, 2024 | |||||
What version of Unreal are you currently working with...out of curiosity ? |
ExtraWildGames | Dec 31, 2024
5.4. Somewhat bloated as far as performance and graphical fidelity goes, but there's definitely ways to optimize without the use of the modern fad tech they have with all that raytracing, lumine and nanite stuff. |
Tiviat | Jan 1, 2025 | |||||
Raytracing is OVERRATED, and its ALWAYS been OVERRATED. I'm using UE as well, albeit a older version...UE3. Planning something.. |
ExtraWildGames | Jan 1, 2025
I mean yeah... it's pretty crappy technology. |
Tiviat | Jan 1, 2025 | |||||
Mark Cerny( Sega Techincal Institute, Naughty Dog, Insomniac and SCEA fame sad that raytracing is the future of graphics in gaming |
ExtraWildGames | Jan 2, 2025
There are... some merits to it, but honestly it's still a super unoptimized and bloated rendering technique. The performance hit on FPS is absolutely abyssmal. |

Is it me, or are these execs selling ideas to market to show "innovation" to share holders, as a way to spare investment and tick a box? I have been feeling for a long time that it is not about the consumer at all, but rather the share holder as an easy out for contractual obligations to them. There is also statements in most of the jobs i have worked under in engineering, medical and gaming (i am a contractor), with all contracts to date stated "you are to do all you can to protect and spur investment in the company and industry". Regardless of waht ever that means to it. Now imho the consumer is the crop which should be tended to, in terms of spearing investment and buying in to products, but companies keep making bone head decisions like above, which cost performance to look more shinny, like shinny means more then game play and story, which pushes the majority of us away. So, my questions is why if we need to buy the products they are making? Sorry for ranting and if this is the wrong place for it, but i am seeing this kind of pattern more and more, and it makes me simply not want to invest in current gaming landscape, which is for the most part predatory. |
