Got my DSL working right, now i need NIC help

		okay the parents are on win98 still (i know i hate them for it). im running a router which is fine and my pc is running fine off it. but their computer is having issues. the NIC card is installed and shows up as working in the system bit gets no connection. in the linksys manual it says to go into winicfg in the ip config window select your adapter. the only option i have is a PPP adapter and the NIC isnt listed. and the manual says anything listed should NOT begin or contain PPP, VPN, AOL or dial-up. so what do i have to do here? im thinking about just wiping their drive and putting in win 2000 (would it autodectect the NIC and router like xp?)

		First things first, what brand is the NIC? Where is the NIC showing up as working? ATM, I'd guess a corrupted driver install - if you right click on the Network Neighbourhood icon and goto properties, your adaptor needs to be listed there. If it isn't, it's probably the drivers.

		its a linksys card, and in the "system" tab in control panel its listed under network devices. ill cjeck that network neighborhood thing in a bit.

		try the device manager (Windows-Pause/break), remove the network card, reboot, reinstall from the disks (or a download from linksys's site), reboot, and you should be good. we know it's a problem with that computer, since it doesn't even bother with an IP for the card. Windows 98 is just fine for me and my Dlink card. pherhaps, if you can't resolve this, you could switch to a different brand. Linksys seems to have problems.
