I am wondering how much info is out there about the DC Zip drive. This kid I went to school w/ (and I still believe do) actually had a Japanese DC w/ sum games and all this Zip stuff to mess around w/ when it was being made (before the DC hit the US even....lucky bastard). He got all the stuff because his dad was one of the engineers I guess concieving the project down in SLC, UT. Now to my knowledge the Zip drive never got final correct? Was never released anywhere? Now if this is correect, I might have to track down that kid and see what I can find out about this device, and maybe get a proto of it.....maybe even a working one . SO ya, let me know what you guys know about the Zip Drive for the DC and i'll let you know what I can find out. Later.

I took a picture of a boxed Zip drive for the Saturn in Japan... I have no idea what it was used for.

Zip drive for the Saturn or floppy drive?

I've certainly seen floppies before...

Zip for DC was never released. The proto worked...well it basically could do stuff if the DC was programmed for it. But no game ever supported it. So it'd just be a big paperwight under the DC.

And the Saturn had a 3" NOT 3.5" floppy drive in japan. It was basically a glorified memory card.

It's an interesting concept but I guess that the load time of Zip drives are much worse than the load time of GDs (and VMUs). Maybe the only good reason to have one is the huge storage size of one zip disk (the VMU memory is too small).

Maybe it was a solution searching for a problem.
