Docs for analogue controller and multitap hardware?

I am working on a new version of my Saturn to USB converter (see http://denki.world3.net...) and want to support the analogue controller and multitaps.

The problem is that all the info I have managed to find, such as the official SMPC guide, only tells you how to read the controllers from the Saturn programmer's point of view - they don't actually explain the electronic interface. That's what I need to know, which signal lines do what and what is the protocol used?

Anyone have any information on this? I have taken apart a multitap and it contained a PIC16C84, and I'm guessing that it probably uses some kind of serial protocol. Unfortunately the PIC had it's code protection bit set.

Ah, wait, don't worry, I think I have it now. It looks like the pinout I had for the port (and which is given on most web sites) is wrong. Pin 6 is described as +5V, but it's actually TH.
