DC on a vertical angle

		Ya'll here might think im a huge shit talker cause im doing all kinds of stupid lil' projects (well big) but I am attempting to fill a giant void. But eh, onto the question. Ok Im making an all in one case to put my sega genny, 32x, cd, master drive converter, and DC in. Allow it all to run off the same power supply, and have a toggle switch to easily swap between the 32x and master converter. During the process of drawing up my design my buddy points out that having the dreamcast on a vertical angle like i want might cause some strain on the motor. Is this true? I'm hoping its not cause i like the way my case is looking so far for it.

		It's never good to have a console tipped on it's side, because of the motor/ laser/cd drive thingy like he said. I've heard you shouldn't even stand Playstation 2 vertically because of that. As far as switching between 32x and Power Base Converter, I don't think that's possible. I use a sega power strip, and a second sega genesis for the power base converter, for my own setup.

		thats what im doing now... with two genny's and all. but the switching between the 32x and power base converter, yep yep it is possible... made sure before i went through the making of the whole case it self. how bad do you think it is for the motor... should i figure out a way of putting the dc in there horizontally, or take the risk. the vertical just looks cool in my opinion.

		Probably pretty bad, my PS2 won't read discs any longer if it's standed verticly. And that is built to be standed verticly. Personally I like to have my consoles seperated.

		ill scan up the designs soon... i have to go to my parents to do everything cause i have no internet access at home. Only here at work or at my parents. and ill never be the great slinga... im the magnificant dyldo, i own 17 consoles and play 14 of them habitially. So i need to start conserving space while still having my access. for those of you who wanna know: sms (not played, see next) sega powerbase converter sega genny sega 32X sega cd sega saturn sega DC sega GG NES SNES N64 (not played) GC Game boy (not played) GBA 3DO PS Xbox

		OK heres 2 quick sketches kind of... Yeah there kind of big... i dont have much access here at work, can't believe i was able to upload it... well smoke break time, ill explain a lil' further when i get back.

		the case is going to be made of oak with wood stain... there will be brass trim... especially around the sega cd tray. The sega cd tray itself is going to be painted or covered so it blends well. The windows on side and the lid on the DC will be plexy glass. The lid will also have the DC spiral painted on it, with brass hinges and latch to hold close. cushions will be used around the lid and on the DC tray to reduce dust and scratching. Now the splitter board will be hooked to the switch board to recognize if the SMS/32X switch is up or down and select which card to pull from respectively. Some tweaking will have to be done to the 32X for the distance in wiring for the data. But the SMS isnt effected much. I will also be putting in a 9v amp splitter which will distribute the proper amperage to each system except the DC... not sure at this point what ill do for its PS but im working on it and hope to integrate it into the PS for the rest. Im at work so my desc. is loose and this is just basic design idea. not enough time for a more in depth description. Again the main prob im coming across is what im gonna do with the DC, if its such a high risk for the DC being vertical, i can move it into a horizontal position where the SCD cd unit is and move the CD unit down. oh and the the switch board will also handle the video out between the genny and 32x... so that it will work with the sms powerbase converter.

		That is a really cool idea, but another serious problem you've got is cooling, the cartridge-based systems should be okay but you should get some sort of fan so the Dreamcast doesn't get tooo hot in there. Also, where is the Saturn? What I always thought would be awesome is if Sega made a Sega Saturn where the cartridge slot played cartridge games, and it also took Sega CD games, Dreamcast too while were at it. Essentially a Sega that plays everything like you're going for here kind of, only a liscensed compact machine.

		ahhhh, i was thinking as i scanned this that i forgot to draw something that was in my plans in my head... yeah i have plans for an entry fans on the left and right of the DC and an exit fan on the rear of the system. this actually spawned from a dream i had which was a 100 disk CD changer hooked to a GD-rom reader... and i had a switch box that distributed everything to its proper systems (SCD, saturn, DC, and PSX) but the thing is so far fetched and all. I highly doubt it could really be done, especially not by me. So this is why i started this lil' box

		Well good luck with this. I actually was planning a similar project, only they were shelves with a power supply built in, to hold my 12 consoles or however many I have now. I never built it, because I give up easily.

		thats what i use right now... its not really efficient though with all the cables still draped out the back for video. also all the huge plugs that old school systems use take up so much space. thats why im doing this, to shrink all those plugs into one plug. but im still concerned about the whole DC on its side prob... cant find any info bout it on the web, and ive never heard that bout the PS2... and i remember with the PSX you can put it on the side when it gets old the help the motor read the CD better. I really want it on its side but dont wanna have to replace the GD-rom in a couple months.

		I vote lay it flat down, or just have a few spare DC's laying around....

		im putting it horizontal... i took my dc apart and checked it out... yes it would put alot of stress on the gd-rom. it upsets me though, i thought it would of looked cool.

As we both share the same name... :lol: Also, I wouldn't classify the PowerBase Converter as a console.

		without it or an sms you cant play sms games... so, it kind of is a console on a console. Eh if not, 16 then, still 16 is a lot... oh and your "da fanatical dyldo"

		actually i figured out a weird way of doing it... im gonna put the DC where it is in my drawing, but its gonna be on a track so that way it slides out onto a horizontal angle during play. and then you slide it back up when not using it... i could make it easier and put it on top. but i want it to look cool too. oh and im thinking of takin the power base converter out... do you think i should keep it in, i dont really use the sms much, and the whole switching between the two is possible but still really complex. what do you guys think, keep it or not.
