i just read some sort of tutorial on how to modify the saturn laser-unit to read cdrw. the guy who wrote that said something about some sort of switch that should raise the laser power and then it should be possible.

the point is, i don't want to break my saturn once and for all so that's why i'm asking if anyone has tried that yet. ???

I think so.

well, i don't think this'll work... have you tried it or not?

I believe people other than RadSil have done it as well.

Be warned though, increasing the laser intensity will shorten the life of your Saturn.

If you're not confident about it don't do it. CDRs are cheap.

You won't know for sure until you try. Anyhow, I don't have to because, like mal wrote, "CDRs are cheap."

If you fuck your saturn laser, just simply go to a authorized JVC service center and ask for a "Optima-06" JVC optical pickup. It's used on a plenity of CD Players from JVC.

And it's a cheap optical pickup, so it won't be more than 15 bucks and you get a neat flawless read, just like when the saturn was new ... (Might require some adjustment on "POTS" on the older 1st model drive (Aka 20 pin ribbon cable)
