XBOX hacked yet again? 3rd? 4th? time

There's a new XBOX 360 video out there, one that doesn't use a hot swap, in higher resolution than the hot swap video. The video right now is on newsgroups but depending on how many days each individual server keeps articles, it could be there between 1 and 30 days. So, go to alt.binaries.games.xbox and check it out before it's gone.

As I've stated, this isn't going through a hot swap method. It is most likely an unreleased firmware hack to the xbox 360's dvd-rom drive.

I really hope that this is legit, and if it is, I think there still will be a little more work before a *real* mod chip is out, because Microsoft will most likely end up changing dvd-rom drives several times and maybe extra security measures to keep people from flashing new firmware to the drives.

We have seen at least 3 or 4 exploits of hacks to the system already, and even though nothing in terms of mod chipping, I'm sure more people are learning the hardware and security measures to the system better than before.

A little update on this.. Apparently, a hacking group has modded the xbox 360 dvd-rom drive's firmware, not by flashing it, but physically replacing the eprom with their own. The group believes there is a way to flash the drive but have not figured it out yet. They also believe that xbox live updates could flash the drive, detecting modded firmware, or other improvements of security, making it essentially a useless mod.

This hack works with XBOX live right now, but like I said, this group believes that microsoft has the ability to update the firmware and such, even banning members from xbox live if they detect it.

The hack will not be publicly released, for 1 reason. It only runs signed code, meaning it'll only run pirated copies of games, not any homebrew software. So, I understand why they're not releasing it, as it could get them in to some serious trouble.

TheSpecialist's team will probably not release their hacked firmware, but someone will probably release a similar hack publicly, as pretty much all of the research was done in the open.

According to Team Xecuter they are currently working on an app. to flash the firmware on the various 360 drives when plugged into a PC... http://www.teamxecuter.com/...
