Peripheral manufacturer Blaze is to revive the best-selling, once dominant Sega Mega Drive games console.

The new machine will be released as a handheld and will come bundled with 20 titles built in for £29.99.

Among the classic games supplied with the unit will be Sonic And Knuckles, Ecco The Dolphin, Golden Axe, Kid Chameleon, Shinobi, Alex Kidd, Altered Beast, Alien Storm and Enchanted Castle.

The handheld, which will launch this month, can also be connected to a TV set using a cable included.

A Blaze statement reads: If you missed playing Sega Mega Drive classics such as Sonic And Knuckles, Golden Axe, Shinobi and Ecco The Dolphin, you now have a chance to do so again and all for the price of a single Nintendo DS game.

Sounds neat, but there's no way I'll buy it at that price. I guess I'm not precisely in the target market, though.

The official site is at www.segaretro.com...

It doesn't seem to mention whether you can display it on a TV or not. Does anyone know if this is possible?

It also annoys me that their claim that this is "The world's first Sega Megadrive handheld console" which is obvioiusly not true. Why would they say that?

If Sega are having success in selling these handhelds with built in games then I don't know why they don't release a cartridge or disc based handheld. You wouldn't think it would cost much more than one of these and would definately be more popular.
