unless the Dell laptop has VGA IN you are out of luck...

If you want to use your laptop screen to replace a TV for your dreamcast, you'll need to get some form of a capture card...I'd recommend WinTV USB edition...be aware though that this will only look as good as playing the Dreamcast on a standard TV...if that.

aww man. so how do i know if i have VGA in? i have two USB 2.0's, a firewire, and some serial looking input.

female

15 pins

should look something like what you see in the attached pic

Sweet. thats how it looks, but i dont know know whether its female or not.

Is there an option for dreamcast to hook it up to a TV via component cables?

Maybe like a VGA/component adapter/converter.

that would be ideal for me really. actually, hooking it up to my laptop would kick ass, but i doubt i have female not that i think about it. i think i remember seeing pins.

Does anyone know about the component thing?

It's far more likely that the connector you have that looks like that is a VGA output.

You do not have VGA IN on a laptop. They will never add this. It's really quite useless. I mean you'd have to have the laptop turned on to use it as a monitor for another PC and unless you got an ancient PC chances are it's monitor would be better to use anyway. You can get the capture PCMCIA cards or USB cards....but I'd just stick to a regular TV.
