Yep, sadly this method only works with a 1.0 firmware, which means:

1) You have to have a unit from the Japanese launch, because newer units shipped with later versions that "fixed" this "problem".

2) You can't upgrade the firmware, and therefore can't play newer games and homebrew on the same unit.

I played the gb emulator today, it ran slow and without sound but was impressive nonetheless. I also played a homebrew game called 'simple turn' which was surprisingly addictive for how amazingly simple it was. The gameboy emulator I played has been updated with better speed already - I hope to see further developments of this and new programs soon
