this dude selling me this 256mb stick he got from some pentium 166 computer and i wanted to know could i put it in a hardrive the use 133 ram |
racketboy | Jul 22, 2004 | |||
it's a 128MB stick actually. and the "dude" is me. not a RAM expert so I told him to ask here |
IceDigger | Jul 22, 2004 | |||
Depends on the motherboard. Whats the make and model of the motherboard? |
racketboy | Jul 22, 2004 | |||
My ram came from a P133/166 machine. I think he wants to know if he can use it in a Celeron machine |

Depends on the MOBO |

Unlikely. Most machines in the P133 class are going to use 72-pin EDO DIMMS, and it sounds like he's talking about something that uses SDRAM. |

There is a vague possibility that it uses PC66... |
ExCyber | Jul 22, 2004 | |||
I don't think SDRAM would have been supported on boards that supported a 133MHz Pentium, but 128MB is awfully large for an EDO module. Racket, how many pins does the module have? Or if you could get the part number from one of the chips I could look it up (if it's 168-pin that will be necessary, as both EDO and SDRAM modules were made in that form factor) |

Err, if you mean boards made at the same time, it is unlikely. But any Socket 7 board, for example, will run older Pentiums. I HAVE seen socket 7 systems that came stock with old (p120) CPUs. Of course I've also seen socket 7 boards that supported old crappy memory. The PC industry is such a random mess sometimes. |

well i want to know if i could use it on a p3 800mhz i know it uses sdram with a speed of pc133 and it 168 pins |
racketboy | Jul 24, 2004 | |||
I'm almost positive that's not a possibility |
Alexvrb | Jul 24, 2004 | |||
Racket would have to take a look at it to determine if it was even SDRAM to begin with. Even if it was, you'd have to underclock your memory to 66Mhz (if possible), which is not a good idea. |
