Ok, i have come across an old compaq pc.. iv basically ripped it all apart, just experimenting with the parts.. tearing the old 75 mhz processor out and what not.. anyways.. i ripped apart the power supply and removed the fan, i noticed that it is the exact same size as todays pc case fans, so my question is can i saftly attach this to my newer pc? it does not have a plug or anything for me to attach it to the pc board.

It's most likely a standard 12v 80mm fan, as you say, the same size as standard PC fans. You should have no problem using this in your computer - just attach it to the 12v rail on one of the molex power connectors (I believe the yellow and black wires). Or you could solder it directly to one of the unused fan headers on the motherboard, I guess...

Keep in mind, that an old fan like that, may not have the longest life after you do this, because of how old it is. Realistically here, you're talking about putting in work to save $15 (or less) on a fan that will most likely be quieter and push more air through.

Yea, i decided against the whole idea. It seemd like it might be a fun project at first.. but as u guys mentioned.. its probably not worth the time and effort.

you can change the fans on those things

Err, yeah, but what does that have to do with him wanting to rip the fan out of an ancient one and use it as a case fan? Anyway, I agree with Rabbit. Who knows how much life it has left, and you can buy a quieter, better one from panaflo/vantec/etc.

I think this is the 2nd topic Riddick has kinda been a lil' off on. Do you not read all the posts? haha. Just curious.....
