My notepad has somehow got deleted when I try to open it, it comes up with the Accessibility Wizard.. "This Wizard helps you configure Windows for your vision, hearing and mobility needs" ... etc.

The only way I can open anything with notepad is going into an FTP program and viewing it... But I just want my damn notepad.exe back any suggestions???

If notepad is still on your pc, you probably need to check and make sure the shortcut is pointing to the right thing. (Just a guess)

Im not sure how that could have gotten changed without you knowing though..

My icons get screwed with for no reason sometimes. A few hours ago my 'My Computer' icon got changed to the power-off icon. One time it completely disappeared. Try making a new shortcut. I believe notepad.exe is in Windows/System32.

It could be a virus or some other *ahem* malware that's messing with your PCs.

I just want to get notepad to open files when i click on notepad files and not have to use an ftp prgoram to open them.. That is annoying someone has to know what to do.

I went to system32 in the windows folder and the icon for notepad is that standard blue box white screen and it said it didnt work blah blah.

As to racket.. I just moved and got my internet hooked up today that is why I haven't been around. If anyone can help me with this problem I would really appreciate it.

You 100% have a virus.

Download AVG and run that.

 RitualOfTheTrout Jul 13, 2004
Yes with all the problems you are having it definitly sounds like a virus. I also use AVG free edition, it is great! Very light and doesnt hog up system resources like Mcafee and Norton.

I got AVG and I was wondering if it detects worms like McCaffe or Norton does? Like is it a good idea to delete norton from my system permanatley and use AVG for my virus needs?

Also "Windows cannot find NOTEPAD.EXE" still.... After finding a few viruses through AVG.

 IceDigger Jul 13, 2004
AVG detects alot more then norton or mcaffee do.

Non of them are 100% virus proof though.

Get rid of norton and stick with avg.
