Next Gen sonic should be made like Pandemonium

Anyone play Pandemonium (1 on Saturn/Playstation, 2 on Playstation)?

I was just thinking that game engine would make an excellent 2.5D Sonic The Hedgehog game.

And since modern publishers won't sell 2D, but controls in 3D platformers suck, a 2.5D offering would be the perfect compromise.

I like the way the camera smoothly changes viewpoint as you run to keep all the beautiful scenery in view. It would work well at a fast-sonic-pace.

There's a bunch of videos on youtube if you want to take a look.

I tried it on the N-Gage so I think I know what you're talking about in terms of gameplay. It's not such a bad idea although I would like a Sonic game to be more complex and not so linear. You would also need to make sure the game could move fast enough to suit someone with the speed of Sonic.

I think the Sonic Advance series on the GBA and DS were pretty good 2D games, and I think they must have sold decently given how many iterations there are.

But the latest sonic (Sonic Unleashed) looks a lot like pandemonium. At least, the daytime stages. The werehog business looks more like Yakuza.

I always liked Pandemonium myself, however, I seem to remember a LOT of "hate" from self-prescribed gaming professions about that style of gameplay. So I doubt it would ever happen.
