Nes box question - Curiosity

I have a PAL NES, but I think that US NES will be te same. At the bottom of the NES Box (and when I say box I mean the plastic that covers the chips, don't know how to call it because I'm not english/american). At the bottom of it there is something removable, don't know at all the use of removing it. I tried puting the RF Box there but doesn't fit properly at all. I tried it to try something, and because it's the only thing I thought could fit there. Anyone knows something about that? Only for curiosity.

Well that's something I always wanted to know. Good thing you brought that up. I'm waiting for the answer.

I assume that it's only the (big) cover for the expansion port, but well, if someone knows something about why that design tell us

Wasn't it meant for the Japan only Disk Drive (the 64DD of the time)?

 Fabrizo May 27, 2002
Um, the 64DD Karny? Arn't we talking about NES in this thread...?

 SkankinMonkey May 27, 2002
No, he's reffering to a disk drive that was being planned for the NES that was the equivilant of the 64dd for the n64. The NES (aka FAMICOM aka Family Computer in japan) never had the disk drive attachment in america as far as i know.

Yep - it's the expansion port - got bored and filed it off

 Karny Jun 4, 2002
Why would you want to do something like that?!

 JDAdams Jun 5, 2002
In case I ever want to plug anything into it It still has the external cover, of course, but that just clips off.

 Karny Jun 6, 2002
LOL!

I thought you meant you filed off the expansion port itself

 JDAdams Jun 6, 2002
Heh - it does read like that now that you mention it

It was also for a modem, that did get released in japan, and a networking device in the states that got yanked but did get released in japan as well, it was Batons TELEPLAY. If you want to know more about it, go here http://www.classicgaming.com/thewarpzone/teleplay.... if you want to see a pic of it connected to the nes, go here http://www.classicgaming.com/thewarpzone/teleplay.... hope this helps.
