Why King of Fighters 2000 and not 2002?

Probably because 2002 isn't done yet. From what I've heard, 2001 is still making the rounds in MVS machines in those arcades far away from me that haven't undergone total conversion into driving/shooting/simulation-exclusive establishments. ???
