| I don't have a car at the moment, but I'd never put more than $2 worth of gas in at a time. | |||

| what's stupid is that there are a number of these monsters here in the Bay Area, but I have a hard enough time finding a decent-sized parking space for my Corolla that won't get my door banged in more than they already are. | |||

| I don't have a problem with the H2 being publically available, or even with people choosing to buy and operate them in a sport/utility capacity. However, I can't help but think that you really have be extremely dense and/or full of yourself to use something like that as a general-purpose vehicle. It's like using an 8-way Opteron system with 36GB of RAM to surf the web and check your email. It's one thing to tool around town in a Wrangler or CJ-7, but the H2 is like a monument to excess. | |||

| Here's a little idea. Instead of buying one, and driving around in it, just wear a shirt saying in big bold letters. "I NEED ATTENTION!" That should do it! :thumbs-up: | |||

| not over the size thing maybe... but to let people know about that tax break... i didnt know that, i bet alot of people didnt either, that is SO wrong in so many ways. Come on at least be modest about being capitalistic pig whore beurocrats America (gov't.) thats why i say Socialism all the way. | |||
| Alexvrb | Jul 13, 2004 | |||
It's much worse than that. At least the 8-way opteron won't piss people off in a parking lot.

| There's a lot of cars that actually fall under the tax bracket refund. Most of them are SUVs - several that come to mind are: Toyota Landcruiser Mercedes ML 320 or 430 Lexus LX 470 I think there's a weight criteria. That doesn't explain why the G class (gellandenwagen (sp)) isn't on that list. | |||

Those hybrid cars don't get anywhere near as much mileage in real life as the EPA mileage ratings would suggest. http://www.wired.com/news/autotech/0,2554,63413,00... Hybrid cars are inherently more expensive than a normal car, don't expect the prices to come down any time soon.

I don't think anybody does. But I'm thinking that people who actually need a large, beefed up SUV/truck to haul stuff and/or move around rough terrain, aren't going to think luxury first. Making the H2 pretty much just another rich man's toy.

| Hybrids still get good mileage. My uncle drives one. When driving around Madison he gets around 40-45 mpg. Withextended trips on the interstate he gets between 50-55 mpg. As for mainstream, the Honda Civic hybrid is as mainstream as it comes. It looks just look a normal gas powered Honda Civic. The Insite and Prius both are funky looking though. mountaindud.. $2 of gas will get you around 20-40 miles depending on the price in your city. For me, thats not even a round trip to work. | |||

Or crush people to death if it crashes.
| Alexvrb | Jul 14, 2004 | |||
Well, I'm more worried about even larger vehicles on the road when it comes to the "crushed to death" part. Sometimes on the highway I swear there are more trucks (big ones, hauling goods) than cars. They need to use trains again, damnit. Besides, it's not like I'm driving a Civic, so it wouldn't necessarily pancake me. Plus, if the Opteron was being used to host a game, it COULD result in player characters being crushed by ogres. But we were counting on it being a web surfing, email fetching monster. Plus it's got more cupholders and lighters than you would ever need.

It doesn't have to. The raised bumper makes these kind of vehicles much more dangerous since the they're much closed to your head than a normal car. If you are T-Boned by something this size, on the drivers side (or passenger side), you (or your passenger) are much more likely to die.

yeah one reason people get these big SUVs is too feel safe. Guess they don't give a crap about the person on the other end.
| Cloud121 | Jul 14, 2004 | ||
| Yeah I know... People are stupid nowadays.. | |||

I'll take "more likely" over "poor bastard didn't stand a chance" any day.
