Hi there

you know that i want to give the game Return Fire as soon as Prolific makes it possible to the general public.

As a release in the future would be much more impressive when gamers could play it just by loading the game like any original cd without having to mod their Saturns or by using the swap trick, i´m very interested seeing this problem solved. Maybe i can unveil more unreleased but finished games then. (like Sonic Fighters, Bedlam, Criticom 2, Descent, Ecco, Fighting Force, Iron & Blood, etc...)

So i´m about to start a "Crack the SEGA Saturn copy protection" contest, giving the winner a price of let´s say 200$ (Dollars) or 150⬠(Euros)...

Winner is, who´ll find a way to bypass the copy protection with a boot cd or by cheating the Saturn or something else, which outcome of this is, that gamers can play copies by just inserting the CD-R in the Saturn CD-RoM without having to install a modchip or without to apply the swap trick....

You can spread those words in other boards where they talk about finding a way to play CD-Rs, maybe the prize money starts to boost the efforts around the globe...

that's very difficult to do. i don't want to be a party pooper or anything but if it was possible, there would be boot discs already.

I'll add $50 to that..

mod boards are somewhat known to work on 64 pin and even sanyo cd boards. i think consolefever... sells the same type of mod board that gamegizo used to sell. (that's just a theory)

There were many good starts in cracking the protection, but it was never been finished because of lack of interest or lack of professional people.

Breaking the protection isn´t only advantageous for gamers, that they don´t have to buy a modboard (as long as they are still available) or to avoid the swap trick. It would be perfect for dugging out more unreleased games and would boost the dev section...

Aside of and not to mention the fact, that many Saturn CDs are getting old and scratchy...

could you point me to some links of people that have attempted to crack the security ring?

there is and it's called System Disc.

unfortunately it uses the security ring on the disc itself so thr rip won't work without the chip...

haven't heard anyone who cracked that security ring check after all these years... and make me wonder why no one, not even Sgea, isn't using for new consoles???

maybe there's something inside the first 32 bytes of a saturn disc that could let us bypass the security check like the dreamcast? btw dj898, what is that picture of in your signature? i'm guessing you're from australia or japan?

I'm 99% sure it could be done with custom CDC libs and a cart, if you wanted to go that route, but to be able to write a "real" Saturn disc is a fairly tall order.
