I just wrote up a fairly lengthy piece brainstorming about the possibilities of re-releasing classic consoles. Read it... and let me know what you think Thanks! |

Id buy one of the sega ones... but I dont see it happening. One can dream though. |

Even though I doubt there would be the market for them, I love the idea of 'modernizing' consoles with new input, output and save game systems. I'd certainly buy some. |

I spoke to this in an earlier post. Though I doubt it will ever be released, I would love a MS/GG/Genny/CD/32X/Saturn combo unit. For me, it a space issue. Instead of having my Genny w/ CD, Saturn, and MS all plugged into my bedroom TV, just 1 device would rock; same goes for a NES/SNES/N64/GB. |

Wouldn't it still be more accurate then an emu though? Also, can you have an emu read from carts? |

Depends on what you mean by "accurate". I think Gens is actually more compatible than a Genesis 3 now... |

I think rereleasing the software would be as much of a problem as reissuing classic hardware. Sega could make a new Nomad for example, that is more compact with a better screen and battery life, but where would you get games for it? Most people are too lazy to buy stuff on eBay, which makes NO sense at all to me.... EDIT: But I suppose if we are talking about collectors that already have the games like you mentioned in your write-up that invalidates my point. |

Go ahead an re-release some special edition carts and such too. Maybe even some multi-game carts |
Dud | Mar 13, 2005 | ||||
I'd like that even more than re-released consoles. A Streets of Rage 1, 2, and 3 combo cart--I'd buy that in an instant. A few 1000 more copies of Panzer Dragoon Saga... The only problem with these re-release ideas, as a collector, some of the things I DO have wouldn't be as rare, and my bragging rights would go down the toilet. I'm very shallow and materialistic, something about every Tom, Dick and Harry owning a copy of Snatcher, or Sonic Adventure 2 Birthday Pack or Shenmue II for Dreamcast doesn't sit well with me. I know, I am a terrible human being. |

Same here. |

I'm sure if they re-issued the games, there would be something that would identify them as a reprint. That way, the original games would still hold most of their collectable value |
schi0249 | Mar 14, 2005 | |||
A reprint, or re-issue doesn't always affect the originals price. Original copies of Lunar 1 and 2, for example, still go for a pretty penny. However, look at what has happened to FF 2, 3 and Chrono Trigger since the PSx versions came out. |
racketboy | Mar 14, 2005 | |||
that could also be because people sold their SNES and moved onto either ROMs or PSXs |
mal | Mar 14, 2005 | ||||
You mean the Japanese one right? The one that Lik-Sang are selling for US$9.90? |
Dud | Mar 14, 2005 | ||||
Let's keep that quiet until they run out. It used to be impossible to find. |
mal | Mar 14, 2005 | |||
I'll just have to buy them all!!! Mwahahahahah! |
lordofduct | Mar 14, 2005 | |||
I got mine for free in that wallpaper contest... heeheehee! |
