Unsurprisingly, it looks better that the Aussie original. I think these are pics of the older (03/04) model.

Much better then the Aussie one.

 mal Aug 28, 2004
No way. I much prefer the understated stylings of the original.

[edit] I should clarify - I do like the GTO, but I'd still buy a Monaro if I had the choice.

They're almost completely different cars and maybe it's because I'm getting old but the GTO just doesn't really do it for me.

You're still a lucky bastard though Iceman.

Perhaps it is simply too "phat" for a gentleman such as yourself, mal.

I wish they would come out with the judge, man that thing would be wicked.

 mal Aug 28, 2004
The judge?

 IceDigger Aug 28, 2004
It's basically a souped up version of the GTO. More power.

First offered as a performance version of the Pontiac Le Mans in 1964, the GTO quickly became a separate model. The model was immediate hit and the 1965 model was named 'Motor Trend Car of the Year'. Over the next few years, the GTO was further developed to keep up with the 'muscle car race' in North America. The changes included a larger engine and revised fastback type bodystyle. It appeared in various TV shows and commercials, most notably the 'Monkee's Show'.

For the 1969 model year, two new engines were introduced, the Ram-Air III and IV, producing 365 and 370 bhp respectively. The main difference between the two, was the use of a Carter or Rochester carburetor. Also added to the line-up was the 'Judge' model, named after the 'Here come da' Judge' expression from the 'Laugh-in' TV-show. The package included a striking set of decals and the easily recognizable 'Caroussel Red' orange paint.

Pictured is a perfect example of a Ram-Air III GTO, equipped with the Judge package. It is equipped with a long list of extras, which added $ 1.327 to the $ 3.156 base price. The $ 337 Judge package included the Ram-Air III engine, special Rally wheels, ride & handling package, Ram-Air intake, blacked out grill, air foil and decal package. Another interesting extra, is the hood-mounted tachometer. It's seen here at the 2004 Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance.

In retrospect 1969 proved to be the last great year for muscle cars, with new emission regulations and high fuel prices effectively killing them off in the early 1970s. Sales numbers quickly fell and by 1972, the GTO was again just an option for the Le Mans model. Production of the legendary model ceased in 1974. Pontiac returned to the 'GTO' badge for an all-new performance model, which hit the markets in the summer of 2004.

The Judge reminds me of the car in The Dukes of Hazzard. What was the name of the Dukes' car again? Oh yes, the "General Lee."

Sweet. DOesn't it come w/ the LS1 though? I thought the LS2 was the name of the new 427's they are putting in the C6's.

 Dyne Aug 28, 2004
im partial to the g6's myself. got a 2003 gramd am gt and when i heard of the g6 i figured it's be priced between what i have and a sunfire.......boy was i wrong. went to the main site and they want around $20-22K for one.

so ice......you're going to get a GTO and there's a paypal "donate" button over there

Dyne, every little bit helps. Also buying a GTO does not mean I am well off, just good at managing my money.

Nah, LS1 doesn't make that much power. LS1 (about 350/350) and by extension the LS6 (385-405 ponies and torque) are 5.7L engines (roughly 350 cu in). LS2 is 6.0L meaning 364 cubic inches. Nowhere near the 427 mark. The 7.0L engine that you're thinking of is supposed to put out a lot more power... like 480-500?

Maybe.

I do, however, think owning one of these would be just awesome. :thumbs-up:

 Pearl Jammzz Aug 29, 2004
only the top 1/3 of the pic loads for me mal.....

Ya, I thought the new 427 was gunna be called the LS2, guess I was wrong. The LS6 just changes a few parts (push rods, pullies, stuff like that) from an LS1 I believe, so it's basically the same motor. What's the 6.0 litre then? 383? Even have a number? I don't know how to calculate it, haha.

I think you should just save up and buy a C6, haha. I wish I had that much money . I prefer the C5 over the C6 as far as looks. The engine in the C6 however is gunna smoke the C5's.

 IceDigger Aug 29, 2004
Mal, that is one ugly car. I wouldnt be caught dead driving that thing.

 mal Aug 29, 2004

It is a throwback from the 1970's and I guess that decade isn't exactly known for it's good taste, but I still like it.

 Pearl Jammzz Aug 29, 2004
Nice cragars....haha. It looks like those cars they put coffins in....whatever they are called.
