Da jia hao, Hello everyone! Im sure most people won't know any chinese actors outside Jackie Chan or Jet Li. Just the same, Im sure you won't know many Chinese singers. But one Chinese singer im sure everyone knows is Faye because she sings so good that japanese company Square paid her to sing in Final Fantasy. She's been my favorate singer long before she sang for Square, so here is a sound bite with the FF Square song, another song in Mandarin, another song in Cantonese. Im sure a bunch of people can't tell she's Chinese from her FF song because she sings EVEN English so perfectly compared to her Chinese, but Square asked her to sing some English, so she did. Anyway here is the bite I did: http://www.geocities.com/cecilia_chen0110/faye.mp3... English part --> For all my english speaking friends. Mandarin.Ch --> MasterAkumaMatata Cantonese.Ch --> JCTango The quality is really low since I compressed it. She sounds alot better. Have fun! |

ShinJedah --> You said you watched a lot of Chinese movies? Like what? BTW, I said "Im sure most people won't know any chinese actors outside Jackie Chan or Jet Li.". This is still true since even if you watch Chinese movies you wouldn't know who's who or what the heck is going on. Just to let you know I don't consider English subs knowing whats going on. English subs are so so so dumb. Their idea of subs is like this.... Chinese --> "One body, to one mind... One teacher to one student" English --> "You bastered! Your gonna die you p....." Its totaly usless. Its a joke! |
jim993 | Mar 4, 2002 | |||
i thought you didn't have to in your language cecilia |
Cecilia Chen | Mar 4, 2002
jim993 --> Sorry, I don't quite follow you. I mean for those who can't understand Chinese or read it. I assume you'd watch those movies only if they had English subs, and English subs are really poor. |
Fabrizo | Mar 4, 2002 | |||
Would you be suggesting english dubs over subs then Cecilia? |
jim993 | Mar 4, 2002 | |||
i ment the word "to" i thought there wasn't the word "to" in chinese just as i didn't think there was "the" or any of those linking/joining words but i only have a crude understanding of how the language works(such as no past,present, future tenses, no singular plural and so on). |

This has really turned into a more "lets talk chinese" thread |
jim993 | Mar 4, 2002 | |||
well everyone that was going to post a pic has already done so. so what else is there to talk about besides getting superficial and talking about how everyone looks or talk about something that was brought up and that is the chinese language. |
Gallstaff | Mar 4, 2002 | |||
good point. |

Does anybody know this movie called Beyond Hyperthermia or what it is called?I loved this....i watch many action movies...anyone know the Cover Hard series?I watch movies anyway i can....even if i don't undestand anything....chinese movies have such a strange feeling. |
Cecilia Chen | Mar 4, 2002
Strange? How so? |
JCTango | Mar 4, 2002 | |||
i agree with Cecilia. If you understand Chinese, then watching those English subtitles flash underneath the action just makes you wanna pee your pants For some reason, foreign languages never ever translate into English with the proper context lol One of my favorite HK movies was "Dough Wong" (My version of Gwai Lo Cantonese Pronunciation) It's a movie about this Chinese Casino High Roller with special powers =) I don't know what that guy's name is... ...something Sing i think... Cecilia? Can you clear that up? Hehe... yep this is becoming a different thread. Maybe we should start a new thread instead of this one... |
