Same here. The MPEG version is my main interest. I have the system and card and stand ready to help test

I have The MPEG version and card and I'm more than willing to test.

So I put this in Discord but figured I'd post it here as well. It looks like we may be able to boost the FMV quality for the Standard Cinepak version of the game:

Wow. This almost renders the mpeg version useless then. Now I have doubts which version to play.

There's more to the MPEG version than just the MPEG FMVs. There's additional content added to that version, that's why it's called "Complete". And the MPEG FMVs will still look nicer than the CPK version as they'll be full screen with less artifacts.

Hello all,
is it correct to suppose that Saturn's version of Lunar SSSC MPEG should be the best, also of PS1 version?
Is technically possible to have the MPEG features in standard version ?
Thanks

 Mr Conan Jun 11, 2020
The MPEG edition should have better video and sound than the rest, but will require the vcd card.

PSX sound is worse, video is slightly worse than mpeg, but has some additional content; so you can judge for yourself what the “best” version is.

There is an effort to improve the cinepak video for the standard sss edition (see above), so we’ll see how it goes.

Technically you could port in the extra psx content, but I dont plan on reverse engineering the game to that extent. Someone else can feel free to do that as an addendum when we are done.

 TrekkiesUnite118 Jun 11, 2020
Isn't the extra PS1 content also in the Saturn MPEG version?

 Mr Conan Jun 11, 2020
I think saturn mpeg is missing a bromide. Not sure what else.

So I've started playing with an old Mac version of Adobe Premiere instead of Quicktime and I found it has some additional optimizations for it's encoder that can help get the file size and data rate down without making the quality go to crap. One of the big ones is that it can optimize stills which reduces the pixel dance issue you see in a lot of cinepak videos. While I still have to make sacrifices to get the file sizes down to around the original sizes, I'm quite happy with how the videos are turning out:

First Release!

Sega Saturn LUNAR Silver Star Story
Public Beta v1.1.1
06-18-2020

Info:
This is a beta release of an English Translation hack of Lunar Silver Star
Story for Sega Saturn. It only supports the original non-mpeg edition
at this time. It will insert the PSX English script into the game as
well as an English font. Theoretically the game should be playable to
the end, with PSX exclusive content being unreachable.

The goal of this release is to identify any major bugs or
graphical glitches remaining before final updates are made and work
progresses to the MPEG edition. The authors would appreciate if you
could post bug findings to this forum thread

Emulators save-states are very helpful.

TODO:
1. Fix any identified bugs.
2. Implement minor script enhancements
3. Enlarge cinepak video
4. Subtitle release (Subtitle JP Audio, Subtitle JP Video)
5. Dub release (Insert dubbed audio, dubbed video)
6. Import all changes into MPEG edition
7. Create cd authoring tool for MPEG video (MPEG edition only)

Read the instructions to build the game, the SS and PSX games are required for building.

This is relevant to my interests.
Would you share your configs, maybe in the cinepak thread?

@klarth... I will gladly beta test this. I'm a bit slow but certainly will play to the end and report bugs.

Great work! I never played any of the Lunar games, but I guess this is good point to start.

 Stry8993 Jun 17, 2020
Bought an MPEG Card just for this! I'm very VERY excited!!! Hopefully the MPEG Build comes through eventually, I'll be there with bells on when it does, but until then I'm happy to help beta as much as I can!

  1. Download old version of Adobe Preimere from MacintoshRepository
  2. Install on old Mac environment
  3. Use it and play with the settings.
  4. ????
  5. Profit!
The only gotcha is depending on the version you get you may need to switch to QEMU over Sheepshaver as later versions require OS9.22 which Sheepshaver doesn't support.

THANK YOU!

So excited to try this out. Ultimately I'm longing for the MPEG release but I know this is a stepping stone. Appreciate all the hard work

Re-posted attachment, i used imgburn, not the redump guide mentioned in the first set of instructions. Should hopefully work this time.

 mario64 Jun 18, 2020
Anyone else not seeing the attachment?

I noticed the attachment looking through Gmail mobile app yesterday (watched tread notification) for the original and repost. Today both attachments are gone on mobile and desktop.
