Any Mac OS (Hey.. it IS a piece of software!)

Nero

iMovie

Many others... but that's all I can think of right now.

Honorable Mention:

SmartFTP

Any P2P Software that doesn't eat my resources dry (Kazaa and Morpheus slow my computer down to hell, I uninstalled Morpheus more than a year ago, and I'll be "uninstalling" Kazaa later this week, or early next week, by formatting my HDD, so I can put Win98 on there.. goodbye WinME!)

QuickTime

Winamp

Netscape

iCab

Quicktime must die the only (proprietary) video format worse than it is Realplayer :devil

Anyway, what makes Phoenix/Firebird different from the regular Mozilla? :confused

Mozilla Firebird is a new browser based on the same libraries (HTML rendering, network code, etc.) as the old Mozilla Application Suite (aka Mozilla Seamonkey). It's generally lighter on resource usage and is a cleaner program overall. There's a similar project for a mail/news app, called Mozilla Thunderbird. Basically, they're going to stop releasing/maintaining "Mozilla" as one big application and start maintaining the core code and apps separately.

I think quicktime is quite nice actually for proprietary

Not if you're stuck with a (slightly) bloated player interface instead of being able to use ANY media player for Quicktime movies. It's based on MPEG-4, just like DivX, yet I could never play even smallish QT movies without hiccups.

way better than it can play divx

althought I run 2K and you run 98, so that may make a difference

Hmm.

Did they improve Quicktime that much from version 5 to version 6? Perhaps I should reevaluate my opinion.

Quicktime! Ahh! the world's most horrible media player! I've never seen a 'good' version of quicktime.

I personally think that would go to Real

At least Quicktime has good quality and their player isn't anything bad -- just not good

the only beef i have with quicktime is that it sometimes doesnt integrate into browsers properly, and i have problems playing extra large videos. As far as streaming goes though, i like it better than most other formats.

i don't like that it doesn't work with Mozilla

although neither does windows media or real

I know what you mean, I have too many problems with the wma/v streaming format and real. Just yesterday I was wowed more by the near flawlessness and quality of a quicktime stream than the actual streaming content.
