C4 - 2005 & 2006 discussion The satwin sample works nicely on my real Saturn The minivader loads but displays only gray vertical lines ... That the only things I've tried. |

C4 - 2005 & 2006 discussion SaturnOrbit status update: ELF toolchain working(smaller binaries), I did it similar to ExCyber's fixed SGL. SBL ASM files converted to GNU as syntax -> no more gasm.bat or gasp usage. (well, one file of SPR isn't finished yet and the whole stuff needs to be veryfied, although changes are minor) SBL examples compiled. (except FLD - outdated - and MPG - missing) SBL library compiled, except SPR(that single file...) and FLD - missing. No binaries or ISOs will be included(smaller size), instead everything can be build(optionally) during setup installation. Homebrew examples which don't use SGL/SBL are included. (very fine stuff, and how small the binaries are...) S**t, only one week left for the GBAX and I haven't done anything for my GP32 game. Will have to do some magic next week :huh . |

Don't forget we have now the Duck codec with a working player sample thanks to Borisz. |

I'm interested to include the demo and codec stuff. But I can't find the demo here http://forums.segaxtreme.net/index.php?showtopic=1.... If anyone can send me the demo and the codec include headers and libraries. I got a dialup connection, no chance for 100Mb. |

C4 - 2005 & 2006 discussion Thanks for the download! All .BAT files should now work with Win9x, too. There isn't much to do anymore. My GBAX entry is somehow running on GP32 now, but there are a lot of GP32 specific problems(sound, graphics, memory) to solve and the game itself needs some finetuning. |

C4 - 2005 & 2006 discussion I just send in my GP32 entry for GBAX :banana . It's been luck that I saw the rules don't allow a release before judging took place. That's been close, I would have been disqualified! Regarding SaturnOrbit and the contest: We will see both things going in the next couple of days |

C4 - 2005 & 2006 discussion I've justed looked at your contest page. Have there been some kind of discussion about the rules ? I have a few comments. 1. The entry should contain the program sources. 2. The entry should not necessarily mention the contest (what's the reason for ?) About "ideas", I noticed an inconsistency: I don't understand how "an app/library to access the backup memory of an Action Replay cartridge from within a homebrew game." could be "fun to play". About publicity, " - Make pre-releases of betas to get early feedback so you'll be noticed if you're on the wrong track. - Start an own topic for your entry at segaXtreme's saturn dev board and stay in contact with other devvers. " I think it's a very good idea. How about opening a general pinned thread about all project news ? |

Of course it is good to have the sources published. But I know others that are not that much adicted to the open source idea. In the end it's just another restriction that could lower the number of entries.
Well, that's common case in a lot of other contests. It's publicity for the contest and signals the gamer that there are other games, too. Don't ya be ashamed for taking part in the contest, instead be proud! If it's a big problem, maybe i could ease this rule for you. (If there's a contest or not, you would release your game in either way, wouldn't you?)
Yeah, this way it might sound like an inconsistency. But it's also said that there is no restriction on the type of entry. So it's allowed. And personally I think it would be useful. Maybe I should write "something to have a good time with" instead. But it's not meant like "create a shooter", just a hint/advice to avoid crap. I'll see how I could write it better. QUOTE(vreuzon @ Wed, 2005-06-08 @ 10:29 AM) As you mentioned a contest CD containing all entries, programmers should be aware by now of the size limitations it implies: for instance, audio track length (and position on the cd), and (less probably) loadable data size; as well as the code startup memory location.
